Tips to getting faster!
Thigh drive is a pillar in the speed development game. If you are a coach telling your athlete to run with high knees, you do not know what you are doing! Thigh drive is NOT the same as high knees. The thigh drive is a technical training drill used in the Parisi Speed School's speed mechanics program. Thigh drive drills assist the athlete in properly folding their leg when sprinting and also promotes proper acceleration. It is important to cue this movement correctly. Not only is the thigh drive itself critical, but the athlete must:
- perform proper dorsiflexion
- maintain a neutral pelvis
- embrace their abs
- employ their arm action
The thigh drive is a challenging drill that is often confused with high knees. Some tips for performing the thigh drive include:
- Leg recovery: The leg must recover correctly to get faster.
- Thigh drive: The thigh must drive forward.
- Elbows: Bend the elbows.
- Toes: Keep the toes up.
