BUILDING NUTRITIONAL HABITS

Since 2001, POW! Gym has featured a monthly goal for its members. This month we are focused on nutrition. If diet is guided by your habits, then I challenge everyone to try building or changing 1-3 habits. They say it takes 28 days to form a new habit. The goal in May is to choose what nutritional habit you really want to add or change.

 

Following a healthy diet doesn’t have to be complicated. While some specific foods or diets gain media support and become trendy, it’s your overall, long-term dietary pattern that is most important. While anyone could design a weight loss diet, it will likely be a short term solution and fail in providing you with balance and control over what you eat, buy and crave.

 

The most common feedback I hear when discussing dietary change is, “ You have no idea how much I love to eat.” This sentiment is wide-spread. I have never heard someone tell me they didn’t like food. Therefore, this is a sophomoric excuse. Everyone can learn to control and make good decisions about their food and lifestyle. At the end of the day, YOU control YOU. The great thing about nutrition and exercise, is that it is a variable in our live that we can change and control. Whether your change is to add more water and vegetables, or remove bread and sugar, you can commit if you really want it.

 

For the month of May, choose a path or create your own, with changes that are realistic and obtainable. Do not set yourself up to fail by trying to change too many things. Be honest with yourself. I have created 3 basic paths.

 

POW! Members: Fill out the nutrition form when you get to POW!. You will write yourself a goal, choose a path, seal it in an envelope and return it to the desk. We will keep your sealed goals and return them to you in June.

 

Pick one of these paths to improve your nutrition.

 

Weight In and record measurements.

 

Set a weight, body fat goal for yourself, write it down & seal it.

 

Give POW! your sealed envelope – to keep you honest!
